The board meetings are typically from 6:15-7:45 PM on the third Tuesday of the month at the following location:

Board meetings are open to all. Please call the school office at 651-414- 6000 to confirm the meeting date
and time if you wish to attend. There may be occasional changes to the schedule. The board values the
participation of LJA community members at board meetings to present comments or concerns to the
board members. Fifteen minutes at the beginning of the board meeting will be reserved for LJA community and general public member participation. Specific incidents and/or concerns regarding any specific member of the LJA community must first be brought to the attention of the board co-chairs and/or the Executive Director. The board co-chairs will review the matter and place the community member on the agenda. Community members listed as speaking on the agenda will be asked to sign in, and wait to speak until called on by the presiding co-chair. A time limit will be set for each speaker.

Danielle is a mother of 2 daughters who is inspired by LJA’s mission to educate scholars to ask questions and make choices through scientific and social critical lenses. She brings her expertise in marketing and coding to the LJA board.

Jason is an accountant/manager at Eide Bailley, a CPA and business advisory firm in Minneapolis. LJA’s focus on STEM at a critical developmental age resonates with Jason who has a six year-old daughter he would love to see embrace STEM learning as she grown. Jason brings his expertise in the financial sector to support the LJA board and school.

Anna is our 7/8 LASS co-teacher. Anna studied Social Studies Education and Women's Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Shortly after starting her teaching career, she returned to school for a Masters of Education through St. Mary's University, focusing on Social Justice Education. Her teaching career has been in a variety of settings in Minnesota and New York and in all settings her passion for the transformative power of education has persevered and grown. She is excited to begin her third year at LJA working to empower students to find and use their voices.

Anna is an Iowa transplant and employment-law attorney, currently practicing Minneapolis. Prior to becoming an attorney, Anna taught middle-school math and science and knows that it is a critical time for nurturing interest in these subjects, especially among female students. Given this background - and with a young daughter of her own - Anna is excited to serve on the LJA board to assist in ensuring STEM-focused educational opportunities for young women in the Twin Cities.

Fahima Aziz is currently teaching at the University of Minnesota. She was the Vice Chancellor of the Asian University for Women (AUW) from 2012 to 2015. Prior to joining AUW, Dr. Aziz was the Alkire Endowed Chair in International Business and Economics at Hamline University, Minnesota, USA, from 2001 to 2012. Dr. Aziz chaired the Department of Management and Economics from 1996 to 2006 and the Environmental Studies Program from 2000 to 2007 at Hamline University. Her research interests include micro-finance, poverty and income inequality, gender issues in the labor market, women and leadership, and recently, the scholarship of teaching and learning. Dr. Aziz is deeply interested in examining how students learn and the importance of instilling metacognitive skills for enhanced learning.

Bryant Noice is a technologist, parent, and nerd who is deeply grateful for the growth of his daughters at LJA. Bryant works for United Health Group in IT, and lives the importance of STEM in his daily life, as well as the criticality of leadership and interpersonal skills. Bryant is an alumni of Boston University, where he studied climate sciences. He is eager to give back to LJA as a board member.

Angi Faiks is the Associate Library Director at Macalester College. Her professional interests include library innovation, information access and literacy advocacy, libraries as community space, maker movements, working towards diversity in librarianship and STEM, and equitable access to education for all. She takes enormous pride in the thoughtful creativity and innovation exemplified by librarians in meeting the needs of community members. She focuses on fostering positive change, encouraging bold new ideas, and building partnerships.

Mimi is a communications and engagement planner at the Minnesota Department of Health. She is proud parent of a 14-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. Mimi received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Public Health from the Saint Catherine University. She is a firm believer in education and a living proof that through hard work and higher education one can achieve success in life and live the American Dream.

Gaye Fisher has been teaching music for over 35 years. She has taught students from Pre-K to graduate school and has directed community & parochial choirs. She has also served in many school district leadership positions and on governing boards including the New Britain Symphony Board in Connecticut and a HOA Board in Texas where she was secretary. Her primary interest in serving on the LJA Board is to bring focus and a voice to the education of students of color.

Morgan came to Laura Jeffrey Academy about four years ago for a student teaching experience. Instantly, she fell in love with the school and its mission, knowing that it was somewhere she needed to learn and grow as an educator. For three years now, she has been a STEM teacher for LJA - each day it is her goal to bring real-world STEM experiences to her scholars.

Sarah Carter is the Manager of STEM Media & Education at Twin Cities PBS (TPT) where she works with the team to develop a national outreach program, produce SciGirls tv episodes, and create gender equitable STEM resources for educators. Prior to her work at TPT Sarah trained science teachers at the Science Museum of Minnesota and taught 5th and 6th grade in St. Paul Public Schools. Sarah lives in South St. Paul with two cats and enjoys spending time with family, reading, and going on outdoor adventures around Minnesota.

Sonia Feder-Lewis is a professor of English and Education at Saint Mary’s University Twin Cities campus in the Education Graduate School. She chose a career in education because she believes that learning feeds positive change and transformation. In her professional work, she studies adult learners and how to support their learning. Inspired by her own women teachers, and even more so by her women students, she is committed to supporting girls in achieving their potential. A long-time resident of Saint Paul and Macalester Groveland, Sonia has been an active volunteer in DFL political campaigns and events. She hopes to serve on the Laura Jeffrey Academy Board to support its powerful mission.
